GLAI terminal text glitches

7

Howdy!

Since installing this several weeks ago, I have been dealing with an annoying glitch in the terminal, which makes it rather difficult to read and understand at some things. Is there something I can do to get the terminal fixed?

I use GLAI with OpenCode, and went through several upgrades in the hopes this would resolve on its own. Current version is 10.9.

Thank you!

  1. Currently, not clear how to reproduce. Anyway, there is some update in terminal so maybe it helped

  2. I got gemini 3.8 to help hopefully figure that out:

    Issue: Severe Terminal Artifacting / Character Desynchronization in Windows PTY

    Environment:
    – OS: Windows (win32)
    – Shell: Windows PowerShell 5.1 (powershell.exe)
    – Host: GreenLight Dash desktop terminal (node-pty / xterm.js via Windows ConPTY)

    Root Cause:
    1. Default Windows Code Page: Windows PowerShell 5.1 spawns by default with [Console]::OutputEncoding = IBM437 and $OutputEncoding = US-ASCII (not UTF-8).
    2. Character Width Miscalculation: Modern interactive CLI tools (like opencode) stream UTF-8 Unicode characters (spinners like ⠋, tree pipes ┃, boxes ■, and emojis) along with ANSI 24-bit color sequences (\e[38;2;…m) and synchronized update codes (\e[?2026h).
    3. ConPTY Wrap Desync: Because the PTY stream expects UTF-8 but Windows PowerShell is bound to IBM437 / US-ASCII, character byte widths are miscounted during line wraps and stream flushes. Carriage returns (\r) jump to the wrong horizontal coordinates, leaving leftover ghost characters, fragmented ANSI sequences, and random glyphs scattered down the left side of the terminal screen.

    Steps to Reproduce:
    1. On a clean Windows machine with default PowerShell 5.1 (no custom profile), launch GreenLight Dash.
    2. Open the terminal and run an agent or CLI tool that streams multi-byte UTF-8 progress updates or spinners (or run a script that prints ANSI cursor jumps \e[..;..H with UTF-8 characters).
    3. Notice that as the spinner updates or text streams, characters from previous lines fail to overwrite cleanly and appear as artifacts/garbled text down the left column.

    Recommended Permanent Fixes for GreenLight Dash:
    1. When GreenLight Dash spawns powershell.exe on Windows via node-pty, pass startup arguments or run on launch:
    -NoLogo -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -Command “[Console]::OutputEncoding = [System.Text.Encoding]::UTF8; [Console]::InputEncoding = [System.Text.Encoding]::UTF8; $OutputEncoding = [System.Text.Encoding]::UTF8; chcp 65001 > $null”
    2. In the front-end xterm.js terminal instance, load the `xterm-addon-unicode11` package and set `unicode.activeVersion = ’11’` to properly align multi-byte and emoji character cell widths with modern terminal standards.

  3. I’m having a similar issue on macOS. I noticed it happens when I switch projects while the AI menu on the right is open, or when I minimize/switch screens away from GDASH. When I come back, the letters get misaligned or overlap. It doesn’t happen every time, just occasionally, but it’s really annoying.

    1. some changes were added in 11 version, please try now

      1. Latest update fixed the text glitches. Thank you, Igor!

      2. nevermind. It started off great, and the text artifacting came back after my first command in GLAI

  4. This still persists into version 13
