* MEDIA BROWSER: Ability to add items to the media browser, without copying files into the project

Greenlight Dash should allow an option for users to use references to video files in the project rather than direct file imports. Building the cache for these files in the project is still OK. However, there should be a way to clear the cache, and the cache should only be built when accessing files (maybe a separate feature request).

When working with TBs of footage, users won’t want to have everything duplicated into the Greenlight Dash folder. Users will want to keep one unified source for content which is stable and separate from each app that accesses it. For example, what if they are using multiple apps with the same footage? They won’t want this duplicated for each app they use it with.

Similar to Premiere Pro, I think users should have the ability to work with video content that isn’t actually in the Greenlight Dash folder structure. For example, our company works with dozens of TB of footage at a time across 4 different 28TB hard drives across multiple systems (with the same exact folder structure across each system). Maybe on dragging files into the media browser, give users the option of importing into the project instead of automatically doing it (with a checkbox to skip the popup in the future). This should be a setting (in a preferences or settings panel) where the default can be toggled. As far as permissions go, AI shouldn’t have to actually access these files on separate hard drives as long as they have references to them and Greenlight can portal the content. Alternatively, AI can just ask for access to those folders if necessary.
