Trimming and Seeking

Frame-accurate scrubbing and trimming controls.

Playhead

The vertical line that runs through every layer row is the playhead. The preview window shows the composited output at the playhead position.

Drag the playhead along the time ruler to scrub. Hold Shift while dragging for slow scrub (frame-accurate).

The current time is shown in HH:MM:SS:FF format above the time ruler.

Trim a clip in the timeline

Hover the left or right edge of a clip until the cursor turns into a horizontal resize arrow. Drag inward to trim, outward to extend (extension is only possible if the source has more material).

Split

Position the playhead inside a clip → Cmd / Ctrl-K. The clip is split into two adjacent clips at the playhead. Each side can be trimmed and moved independently.

Three-point editing

For more precise trimming, use the source viewer:

  1. Double-click a clip in the timeline to open it in the source viewer.
  2. Use I to set the in-point, O to set the out-point, Enter to insert into the timeline at the playhead.

The full file stays intact; the timeline references the in/out range.

Snap to clips

By default the playhead and trim handles snap to clip edges. Hold Cmd / Ctrl while dragging to disable snap.

PROXY / ORIGINAL preview

Video clips preview through a lightweight proxy by default, marked by a PROXY badge on the clip. The badge is a toggle: click it to switch that clip’s preview to the full-quality ORIGINAL file (amber badge). Use ORIGINAL when scale or crop keyframes zoom in and the proxy looks soft — the original keeps full 4K detail even in an HD view, at a heavier decode cost. This is preview-only: exports always use the original. The choice is saved with the project.
