Graph Editor and Custom Easing

An After Effects-style curve editor for every keyframed property: drag bezier handles into hand-shaped easings, hold keyframes, and edit the whole layer’s animation in one window.

Graph editor

Open the graph

In the Keyframe Builder, every property row has a graph icon (linked nodes stepping up a slope). Click it and the tracks stack swaps for that property’s curve:

  • Drag a key to retime or revalue it (hold Alt for a fine drag).
  • Drag its bezier handles to shape the segment — the easing becomes a hand-shaped cubic-bezier, shown under the graph and carried through to render.
  • The header line is editable: the property is a dropdown (move to another curve without leaving the graph) and the number beside it is the selected key’s exact value.
  • A Speed toggle shows the same track as units per second.
  • The playhead runs live during playback, and clicking the graph seeks.

Named easings show their real control points, so a curve starts where it already is instead of jumping. Bounce and Elastic can’t be a bezier — they draw their true shape and only convert when you grab a handle.

Hold keyframes

A key can hold its value until the next one instead of interpolating — from the Hold button in the graph toolbar or the Easing dropdown. Use it for hard cuts inside a track (a position jump, a layout switch in a Grid Morph).

Easing is per segment

Easing belongs to the segment between two keys, picked in the key editor or shaped in the graph. Alongside the classics, five expressive easings match the MotionFast template catalogue — Natural, Slow Down, Overshoot, Impulse and Swing — plus AE Smooth, the After Effects easy-ease the keyframe presets use.

The Keyframe editor window

The graph view’s Keyframe editor button opens the same editor with room to work: every keyed property of the layer on one time base in seconds, the selected curve in front and the rest dimmed behind it, each normalised to its own range so shapes stay comparable across properties with wildly different units.

Retime many keys at once

Back in the tracks view, marquee across the rows (or shift-click) and every picked key is wrapped in one translucent box:

  • Drag the box to move the whole group.
  • Drag either vertical edge to retime the selection — the opposite edge stays pinned and every key redistributes proportionally, with a live readout of the scale factor.
  • Shift scales outwards from the centre; Alt suppresses magnetic snapping.

A drag that would push a key past the clip or merge it onto another is refused, so no keyframe can be lost by dragging.
