AI Reframe smart-crops any video layer to 9:16, 4:5 or 1:1, cut by cut — detecting scene cuts, tracking the subject, and writing an editable crop instead of rendering a new file.

Run it
Select a video layer and open Smart AI → AI Reframe… in the timeline toolbar. Three steps:
- Setup — pick the target frame and a detection model: Scene motion (built-in frame-difference saliency, runs entirely on this machine), Face tracker (built-in MediaPipe face detection — locks the crop onto the dominant face per cut, with midpoint framing for two faces), or Object & person (~10 MB external model, downloaded once and cached — frames people first, then the most prominent object). Options: framing headroom, cut sensitivity, and zoom padding so follow pans never expose the frame edge.
- Progress — the job detects scene cuts, samples frames and tracks subjects, with per-phase progress and Cancel.
- Results — every cut on a wall of vertical previews. Drag inside a tile to re-frame it, and flip each cut between three framing modes:
- Static — one fixed crop for the cut.
- Follow — a smooth pan that tracks the subject.
- Custom — opens a crop editor scoped to that cut, pre-seeded with the tracked subject path as editable keys; ✦ AI keys re-seeds from the tracker at any time.
Near-identical adjacent cuts are merged automatically (cards show “· N shots”); low-confidence cuts are centred and flagged for review.
Output
Send the result to a new portrait project, the current timeline (above the source) or a nested Sequence. Merge as one video (on by default) keeps everything as a single layer whose crop keyframes jump at each cut — untick it for one clip per cut.
Nothing is re-rendered: each cut reuses the source clip as a trim window plus crop keyframes (scale + pan), so the framing stays fully editable afterwards.
Saved analysis
The finished analysis is saved on the source layer — reopening the wizard offers Use saved, and the layer panel’s AI Data section lists it (removable). Detection re-runs only when you ask.
