AI Beats detects the musical beats of any video-with-audio or audio layer, then uses them as edit structure — cut the clip on the beat, or pin a snap-ready marker on every one.
Run it
Select the layer and open Smart AI → AI Beats… in the timeline toolbar:
- Setup — pick the beat engine and tune sensitivity, tempo range and the beat grid. Essentia rhythm (recommended) is the standard MIR beat tracker compiled to WebAssembly — it tracks actual beats on real-world music, including sparse and cinematic tracks; the ~3 MB engine downloads once on first use and is cached. Energy onset is the built-in zero-download fallback.
- Progress — the job extracts and analyses the audio.
- Results — a music preview channel with the real waveform and a pin per beat (taller = downbeats, amber = interpolated through quiet passages). Preview plays your actual music; scrubbing ticks the beats as the playhead crosses them. Click a pin to exclude that beat, thin the grid with All / 1/2 / Bars / 2 bars, and nudge everything with a global offset.
Confidence is honest: speech and ambience report low confidence and the results warn “No confident musical pulse” instead of presenting a meaningless grid.
Apply
- Cut video by beats — the clip is split in place at every enabled beat: one undo step, a minimum-segment guard, and existing layer markers re-anchor onto the pieces. (Audio-only layers — including video clips on audio/voice channels — get markers only.)
- Beat markers on layer — a snap-ready clip marker per beat, downbeats accented, undoable as one batch.
Beat times land within ~10 ms on percussive material. The analysis is saved on the layer (Use saved on reopen; removable from the AI Data panel).
