Pro license issues almost always come down to connectivity to the licensing server, a typo in the key, or a hardware change beyond the per-license cap.
“Invalid license key”
- Re-copy the key from your purchase email. Strip any surrounding whitespace.
- Confirm you are pasting into the License Key field in the Account panel (not the API key area).
- If you copy from a PDF, sometimes the dash characters are typographic dashes — replace with plain hyphens.
“License has reached its activation limit”
Licenses allow a small number of concurrent machine activations. Reaching the cap means you need to deactivate one of the previous machines:
- On the previous machine, Account → Deactivate.
- Or visit your account dashboard at https://greenlightdash.pro/account and revoke a session.
After freeing a slot, re-paste the key on the new machine.
“Could not reach license server”
The activation endpoint is on greenlightdash.pro. If your network blocks it:
- Test in a browser — open https://greenlightdash.pro.
- Corporate proxies frequently strip SSL or block unknown domains.
- The app respects HTTPS proxy environment variables (
HTTPS_PROXY).
If the licensing server is offline (rare), the app gives you a 7-day grace period from the last successful validation.
Pro features disappeared
After several days offline, the grace period expires. The app falls back to the free tier. Reconnect briefly (any network is fine, even a phone hotspot) and the validation runs silently.
Lost license key
Visit Help & Resources → Support & Bug Report Forum and request a resend, or check the original purchase email — license keys are included there.
License works in the app but not in the AE panel
The AE panel reads its license state from the desktop app via the local API. If the desktop app shows Pro but the AE panel says free:
- Restart the AE panel (close the panel, reopen from Window → Extensions).
- Restart AE.
- As a last resort, restart the desktop app to refresh the local license token.
