FAQ

Common questions with one-line answers.

Is my data sent to your servers?

No. Boards, media, and settings live on your machine. AI calls go directly to the providers you configure. The only network call to GreenLight DashBoard servers is license validation (and only for Pro users).

Do I need an account?

No, the desktop app does not require an account for the free tier. Pro licensing requires a purchase but uses a license key, not an account login.

Can I use the app offline?

Yes for everything except AI generation, URL fetching, sharing to Cloudflare, auto-update, and license re-validation past the 7-day grace.

Why bring your own API keys?

So you pay model providers directly at their published rate, with no platform markup. See Bring Your Own Keys.

Which AI provider should I start with?

WaveSpeed gives you the broadest model selection with one key. Add OpenAI or Anthropic on top for chat / agent features.

Can I run it on Linux?

Yes — download the Linux .AppImage or .deb from the releases page. See Installing the Desktop App.

How do I move my boards to a new machine?

Copy the data folder.

Can I share a board with someone without a license?

Yes — Export Board ZIPs are free and require no setup on either side. Live links need Pro on the desktop side, but viewers do not need anything.

Is the source open?

The frontend and backend source live in a public repo. The desktop app installer is a packaged distribution of the same code plus signing.

Where do I report a bug?

Help & Resources → Support & Bug Report Forum. Include the relevant log files.

Where do I request a feature?

Help & Resources → Feature Request. The roadmap is public — Help & Resources → Roadmap — and existing requests can be upvoted.

How often is the app updated?

Roughly every two weeks for Pro, monthly for the free tier. See Help & Resources → Changelog for the history.

Does the AE panel work with Premiere?

Not yet. The CEP panel is AE-only. Premiere support is on the roadmap.

Why does the Mockup Generator only have 10 devices?

Because building accurate 3D device models is laborious. Requests for new devices go through Feature Request — popular ones get added first.

Can I sell shared boards to clients?

Yes, the license permits commercial use of the app, including delivering shared boards to clients. The boards themselves are your content; you own them.

What happens to my data if GreenLight DashBoard goes away?

Your data stays on your machine. The Cloudflare-hosted shares stay on your Cloudflare account. The desktop app keeps running for as long as your OS supports it. There is no cloud lock-in.
