Sync with web moves items between a board in the desktop app and a board on your own GreenLight Dash Server — the web version you open in a browser. You can pull a web board’s items down into the desktop board, or push the desktop board’s items up to the web. Each run moves only what you tick, and the next run offers only what is new or changed.
Sync with web runs from the desktop app. Open it from the globe button in the header: Web version ▸ Sync with web. (The Share window keeps a crossed-out Sync with web → Web version tab that takes you there.)
When to use it
- You collected or built something on the web version — from a browser, a tablet, or through an agent working on the server — and want it on your desktop board.
- You want to send a selection from the desktop up to the server, to keep working on it from anywhere.
- You want a copy of a whole web board on the desktop.
Sync with web is not live: nothing moves until you press the button, and you choose what moves each time. For live co-editing use Collaboration; for a read-only page anyone can open, use a live link.
Connect a server
You need a GreenLight Dash Server of your own. The Host your own tab of the same window walks you through running one — see Web Version, Tablets and Phones.
- In the web version, open Settings with the API Keys button, go to the Server tab and find Agent tokens.
- Type a token name (for example “My desktop”), enter the owner password and click Create. Copy the token straight away — it is shown only once.
- In the desktop app, click the globe button (Web version) and stay on the Sync with web tab.
- Under Connect your GreenLight server, fill in Server address (for example
https://dash.example.com) and Access token (it starts withglt_), then click Connect.
The app lists the boards on the server. The connection is saved on this machine, the globe button lights up, and the window’s tab row shows the server’s name and token.
You can connect several servers. Click the server line at the top of the board list to switch between them, Add a server… or Disconnect this one. The refresh button next to it reloads the server’s board list.
Pull from web
- Open the desktop board the items should land in, then Web version ▸ Sync with web.
- Leave the switch at the top on Pull from web.
- Pick a web board on the left, or type in the search field above the list. Each board shows its parent board, if it has one, and when it last changed on the web.
- The right side shows the web board’s items, each marked:
- New — never pulled onto this board.
- Changed — pulled before, and its content changed on the web since.
- Here — already on this board and unchanged; shown dimmed and not selectable.
- Filter with All, New or Changed, and tick what you want. Select all covers the items in the current filter. Ticking a frame ticks everything inside it.
- Tick any Video projects listed under the grid to bring them along.
- Choose how to bring them in at the bottom and press the button.
| Mode | Button | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Add selected | Bring N items in | The ticked items are added to this board. A changed item replaces its earlier copy in place and keeps the position it has here. |
| Replace board | Replace this board, then Replace board to confirm | This board becomes an exact copy of the web board: all its items, sub-boards and video projects at their web positions. What is on this board now is removed. |
| New board | Create board | A new desktop board is created with everything from the web board, including sub-boards and video projects, and opens. This board is untouched. |
Sub-board cards cannot be ticked one by one; they come along with Replace board or New board.
Push to web
- Open the desktop board you want to send from, then Web version ▸ Sync with web.
- Switch the top control to Push to web. The grid now lists this board’s items, marked New, Changed or Here as seen from the web side.
- Pick the web board to send to on the left — or choose New web board at the bottom to create one on the server from your selection.
- Tick the items and video projects to send.
- Press Send N items up, or Create web board with N items for a new web board.
A push only ever adds. Nothing on the server is replaced or deleted, apart from the earlier copy of an item this board sent itself: a re-sent card updates its web copy in place and keeps the position it has on the web. Media files travel with the items. After New web board, the new board becomes this board’s linked web board.
How changes are detected
- Only content counts. Moving, resizing or rotating a card on either side never marks it as changed, because the desktop and the web board are usually arranged differently. A card that comes across keeps the place it already has on the side it lands on.
- An item deleted on the other side stays where it is. Only a pull’s Replace board removes anything.
- An item you delete on the desktop board comes back as New the next time you look at the web board.
- Video projects are tracked per board, so a second run never duplicates them.
When a run finishes, a line tells you what happened, for example “Done — added 3 items, updated 1 in place, 1 video project. The next pull only offers what is new or changed.”
The link is kept with the board
The desktop board remembers which server and which web board it syncs with, and what was synced. That record is stored with the board in its folder, so it survives a reinstall and travels with the board folder. The linked web board is marked linked in the board list, and opening Sync with web on that board selects it again.
Agents working in the desktop app can run the same pull and push through the app’s API; they use the servers you connected here.
Where to go next
- Web Version, Tablets and Phones — host a server, use the app from a tablet, connect agents.
- Sharing — live links for people without the app.
- Collaboration — edit the same board live with others.
- Importing and Exporting Boards — move whole boards between computers.
