Mockup renders can carry an alpha channel — transparent background, device on top — so the result composites cleanly onto other footage in the Video Editor or in After Effects.
Set the background to transparent
In the background panel, switch to Transparent mode. The preview shows the device against a checkerboard pattern (the standard “this is transparent” visual).
If the background is anything other than Transparent, the alpha export will still write an alpha channel but every pixel will be opaque — the background colour is baked in.
Pick an alpha-capable format
In the export dialog, set:
- Format — WebM (VP9 alpha) or MOV (ProRes 4444).
- Alpha channel — Straight (recommended) or Premultiplied.
MP4 / H.264 does not support alpha — exporting MP4 will silently flatten the alpha to black. The export dialog warns you.
Resolution and fps
The mockup-render presets cover 1080p, square, vertical, and 4K. Pick what your downstream composite needs. 60 fps is the default for smooth device motion.
Where the file lands
Same as other renders — in the board’s media folder, with a new video element appearing on the canvas next to the source.
Composite in the Video Editor
Drop the exported WebM or MOV onto a top layer in the Video Editor. The transparent areas show through to whatever is on the layer below.
Composite in After Effects
Use the Adobe After Effects panel to import the file directly into a comp.
File size
ProRes 4444 files are large (hundreds of MB per minute). VP9 alpha is much smaller but takes longer to encode. Pick by destination: AE handles ProRes natively, the web prefers VP9.
