Every board lives in a folder that holds everything — media plus the board data file (see Portable Board Folders). The Connected folder dialog is where you see that folder, sync it with the canvas, and move the board somewhere else.
The dialog
Click Connected folder in the top bar. It shows:
- Current folder — where the board’s files live right now (open it in Finder/Explorer with the folder button).
- Trash folder — where this board’s deleted media goes (inside the board folder, under
.database/trash/). - Agent memory file — the per-board AI notes file.
- Sync Canvas and Folder items — scans the folder for media that isn’t on the canvas yet and lets you add what’s missing.
- Connect folder to New Path — the change-folder controls, collapsed until you need them.
Moving a board to another folder
Click Connect folder to New Path:
- Select new folder — pick any folder (external disks and synced folders included). A setup step then asks two questions:
- Existing files of this board — Move them to the new folder (the board keeps all its cards; media is copied over) or Don’t move them — start a clean board (the canvas is cleared; current media is parked in the Trash folder).
- Files already in the destination folder — Leave them as is, Create cards for supported formats (each supported file lands on the canvas, like a folder import), or Remove them (moved to the Trash folder after a confirmation).
- Move to default path — shown when the board is in a custom location; copies the board back into app-managed storage.
The previous folder is always kept intact.
Syncing folder contents onto the canvas
Sync Canvas and Folder items lists every file in the folder that isn’t on the canvas yet in a “New media found” panel — select all or a subset and add them as cards. Files you skip stay in the folder and are offered again next time.
Changes made to the board data file in the folder (by another machine, a synced copy, or a script) are picked up automatically — see Portable Board Folders for how live sync and merging work.
When to use it
- Cloud-synced folders — keep a board in Dropbox, iCloud, Google Drive or OneDrive; the whole board (data + media) travels with the folder. See Dropbox and Google Drive.
- Designer workflow — connect a folder where Photoshop or Affinity exports land, then use Sync to pull new exports onto the canvas.
- External storage — big video boards can live entirely on an external disk.
Limits
- One folder per board.
- Very large folders (10k+ files) take a few seconds to scan.
- New media files appear on the canvas via the manual Sync button; the board data file is the part that syncs automatically.
