Swipe Sort

Swipe Sort turns the cards in a frame into a full-screen deck you go through one card at a time. Swipe right for “like” and left for “dislike”, and each swipe runs the action you attached to that direction: add a colour badge, move the card into another frame or board, save its file to a folder, or remove it. It is the quickest way to triage a batch of generations, a folder of references or a round of client picks.

Open Swipe Sort

Swipe Sort works on one frame at a time. Put the cards you want to sort in a frame, then either:

  • select the frame and click the thumbs-up button on its toolbar (Swipe Sort — swipe this frame’s cards), or
  • click Swipe Sort on the frame’s options bar.

The deck holds every image, video, audio, 3D model, PDF, text, Word, CSV, Markdown and HTML card inside the frame, including cards in smaller frames nested in it. Notes, links, social embeds and project files are skipped. Cards are dealt top to bottom, then left to right.

Swipe Sort works in the desktop app and the web version. Pipeline frames don’t offer it.

Choose the actions

The Swipe Sort window opens first. It shows how many cards the frame holds and one block per direction, Swipe Left — Dislike and Swipe Right — Like. Pick an Action for each:

ActionWhat a swipe doesExtra choice
Leave as IsNothing — the card is skipped.—
Set Color BadgeSets the card’s colour label, the same one the toolbar’s colour dot sets.Colour: one of 20 swatches
Add to FrameMoves the card into the next free spot of the chosen frame.Frame
Move to BoardMoves the card to another board, so it also leaves the deck.Board
Download to folderCopies the card’s file into a folder on your computer. HTML cards save their HTML file. If a file with the same name is already there, a numbered copy is saved.Folder — click Choose… (desktop app only)
RemoveDeletes the card from the board. Its file goes to the app’s trash unless another card still uses it.—

By default, left is Leave as Is and right is Set Color Badge with Green, so the first swipe never deletes anything. Your choices are remembered per board on this computer. Click Run Actions to start the deck; the button stays disabled until every chosen action has its target.

Swipe through the deck

Each card appears full size. To swipe:

  • drag the card left or right — it tilts as you drag and the stamp for that side fades in; let go after about a third of the card’s width to swipe, or less to let it spring back;
  • press ← or →;
  • or click the thumbs-down and thumbs-up buttons under the card. The round button between them undoes the last swipe.

The card flies off to the side and the action runs immediately. A short message names the card and what happened, with an Undo button.

The top of the deck shows a progress bar and counter, the two direction labels, a gear (Change actions) that reopens the setup window without restarting the deck, and Close.

Look closer

  • Zoom — pinch on a trackpad or touch screen (up to 6×), hold ⌘ / Ctrl and scroll, or double-tap to switch between 2.5× and 1×. While zoomed, dragging pans the picture instead of swiping; the arrow keys and buttons still swipe. A Reset pill under the card returns to the fitted view, and every new card arrives fitted.
  • Videos play muted and looping.
  • HTML cards show their live page. Only the top card runs its page. Scroll the page with the wheel or trackpad, or drag mostly up and down; a mostly sideways drag is a swipe.
  • Audio, 3D models and documents show a placeholder with the card’s title.

Swipe Sort works with touch on tablets and phones.

When the deck is done

After the last card, Deck cleared shows how many cards you went through and a tally for each action. Everything is already applied to the board. Undo last steps back one card; Back to board closes the deck.

Undo inside the deck restores the card for every action — its colour, its position, its board, or the card itself after Remove. Download to folder can’t be undone: the saved file stays in the folder. After you close the deck, ⌘Z / Ctrl+Z on the board still undoes Move to Board and Remove.
