Smart Grouping reorganises a messy canvas with one click. It clusters elements by colour, type, or aspect ratio, and lays them out in tidy rows.
Run it
Click Organize in the bottom toolbar. Pick a strategy:
- By type — images, videos, notes, and shapes grouped into separate rows.
- By dominant colour — clusters elements with similar colour palettes.
- By aspect ratio — landscape, portrait, and square buckets.
- By creation date — chronological rows.
The app calculates an arrangement and previews it. Confirm to apply, or Undo if it is not what you wanted.
Manual grouping
Select two or more elements and press Cmd / Ctrl-G to group them. Grouped elements move and resize together. Cmd / Ctrl-Shift-G ungroups.
A group acts like a single element on the canvas but keeps its members editable — double-click a member to edit it without breaking the group.
When to use which
| Want this | Use |
|---|---|
| Tidy a board in one shot | Organize with By type |
| Compare colour variants | Organize with By dominant colour |
| Storyboard or sequenced layout | Frames with auto-layout |
| Pin two elements together | Cmd / Ctrl-G |
Selection by attribute
Right-click an element → Select similar picks every element with the same type, aspect ratio, or origin (for example, “every AI-generated image”, “every imported MP4”). Combine with Smart Grouping to clean a board incrementally.
Undo is your friend
Smart Grouping rewrites positions for every selected element. Cmd / Ctrl-Z rolls the whole operation back if you do not like the result.
