Sound, Music and Assets Libraries

Besides each board’s own media, GreenLight DashBoard keeps three libraries that every board shares: the Sound Library, the Music Library and the Assets Library. Use them for material you reuse from project to project — a sound-effects kit, music beds, logos, overlays. The free Motion Design Pack fills the Sound Library with ready-made motion-design sounds in one download.

Open a library

The libraries live in the Media Library panel, behind its source switch:

  • On the canvas — open Media Library in the header. The panel’s title is a source switch: Board Media (this board’s files) or Sound Library, Assets Library or Music Library. Each library shows its number of files, or “Pack not installed” / “Empty”.
  • In the Video Editor — the Media tab in the left rail has the same switch, so you can drag library sounds straight onto the timeline.
  • In the floating dock (desktop app) — Open as floating dock (drag to other apps) in the panel header opens the same panel in a window of its own.

The panel reopens on the source you left it on. Pickers that only accept pictures don’t offer the two audio libraries.

Display options

The Display options button in the panel header sets how files are laid out: Items per row 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 (default 4), or List — one row per file with its name, kind and size, which suits long sound collections. Each source remembers its own choice, so Board Media can stay a 4-up grid while the Sound Library is a list.

The free Motion Design Pack

The Motion Design Pack is 608 motion-design sounds in 21 categories — whooshes, glitches, impacts, bass drops, UI sounds and foley — about 221 MB, downloaded once and shared by every board.

To install it:

  • Switch the panel to the Sound Library. While it is empty, click Download Motion Design Pack; or
  • Click Download packs in the panel header. The Download Packs window has Sound, Assets and Music tabs; the pack card shows its file and folder counts and size — click Download.

A progress bar shows the download and extraction, with Cancel. The pack installs as one section, “Motion Design Pack”, in the Sound Library.

When a newer version of the pack is published, the Sound Library shows “Motion Design Pack — update available” with an Update button, and the pack’s card in Download Packs reads Update available. Updating works in place: the pack’s own sounds are replaced, sounds the new version retired are removed, and any sounds you added to the section yourself are left alone — even if you renamed the section.

In Download Packs, an installed pack also has Re-download and Remove. If the pack’s files were deleted from disk, the library shows “files missing” with Re-download.

Use a library file

Audition a sound with its tile’s play button. To use a file, drag it onto the canvas or the timeline, double-click it, or select it and press Add (Add to Canvas on the canvas).

The file is first copied into the board — into its sounds, music or assets folder — and the board or project uses that copy. A board never points into a library, so removing a pack or deleting a library file later breaks nothing that already uses it.

Organise a library

A library’s top-level folders are sections; anything inside a section keeps its own subfolders. Each section row has a ⋯ menu:

ActionWhat it does
RenameRename the section.
Search in sectionFilter the section’s files by name.
Download all as ZIPSave the whole section, subfolders included.
Delete all files…Delete the section and everything in it (after a confirmation). For a pack’s section this reads Remove pack “Motion Design Pack”….

Add your own files

  • Upload — with a library open, the upload button reads Upload Sounds, Upload Music or Upload Assets. The two audio libraries accept only audio files.
  • Drop files onto the open library to upload them.
  • Drop a folder (desktop app) and choose where it goes: Import as new asset section (name it under Section name) or Import inside current asset section — the section that is expanded right now, so expand one first.

Move cards into a library

A card’s menu (right-click, or its ⋯ button) can move the card’s file from the board into a library:

  • Move to Assets — for pictures, videos and other files.
  • Move to Sound Assets and Move to Music Assets — for audio cards.

These entries appear only for cards that own a file in this board’s media. Notes, links, frames, files from a linked reference folder, and cards that already point into a library have nothing to move.

With several cards selected, right-clicking any of them acts on the whole selection, as does the Move to Board menu in the selection bar. Only a library that fits every selected card is offered: an all-audio selection gets Sound Assets and Music Assets, a selection with no audio gets Assets, and a selection that mixes audio with other media — or includes a card without a file — gets none.

Picking a library opens a window: choose one of its sections (you can search them) or New section… and type a Section name, then click Move. The files move into the library and the cards leave this board — the move is one-way and has no undo, but the files are safe in the library, ready to be dragged back onto any board.

Where the files are kept

In the desktop app, the libraries are stored in the app’s data folder, in a libraries folder with one subfolder per library (sound, assets, music):

  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/greenlight-dashboard/libraries
  • Windows: %APPDATA%\greenlight-dashboard\libraries
  • Linux: ~/.config/greenlight-dashboard/libraries

This folder is separate from your board media, so moving the media folder or the database elsewhere doesn’t touch the libraries, and they survive reinstalling the app.
